How does the Help Team help with these areas?
We approach every situation under the guidance of God's Word. But to use that Word, we have to meet with a family. Our goal is always to sit down face to face with all the members of the family and listen to what's going on in their lives. These conversations are always held in the strictest confidence!
But often, that's not enough. So the Help Team and the Michigan District have partnered with Wisconsin Lutheran Child and Family Service, Inc. (WLCFS) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Through their Ministry Support Services, we offer transition counseling. You may download a copy of Michigan District Help Team Manual here... [WORD DOCUMENT -OR- PDF FILE]. Transition Counseling brings qualified mental health professionals in to the equation. They assess the emotional and family situation. They also use their unique training and experience to help the former called worker seek gainful employment.
The goal is for the family to move forward and to begin to heal. Spiritually, that means listening and offering counsel from God's Word. It also means encouraging the family to find a permanent church home. Emotionally, that again means listening, but it may also mean assessing whether there is a more profound need that should be addressed, personally and within the family. With respect to employment and finances, it means putting the family in a situation in which they can trust God's care for them and use the gifts God has given them to become financially independent again.
